The 2017 Audi Q2 is the smallest SUV model in the Audi Q family line. This is after the release of the previous Q7, Q5, and Q3 versions that hit the auto market pretty well. The German auto design featured in this small SUV renders it a premium feel and enticing appearance. Audi had initially named this model as Q1 but recently made it vivid by renaming it as Q2. It is rumored that Q1 will be much smaller than the current Q2. Similar to Golf, the 2017 Audi Q2 will ride on a uniform MQB platform.

These are our latest spy shots of a prototype for the upcoming Audi Q2. Previously confirmed as the Q1, the vehicle is now thought to be called a Q2. The name switch was confirmed to Indian Autos Blog by Audi R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg. When asked about the upcoming Q1, Hackenberg replied, “You’re talking about the Q2.”

Audi had always intended to call the vehicle a Q2 because it will be more of a compact, as opposed to a theoretical Q1 which would be more or less the size of the A1 subcompact. But since the rights to the Q2 name was owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU], which previously used it for a front axle differential in some Alfa Romeo models, Audi had to settle for Q1. It appears things have since changed.

2017 Audi Q2 Price

Pricing for the new 2017 Audi Q2 has been set at $39,000 – $45,000 based on current exchange rates. If there are changes on the 2017 Audi Q2 we will notify you as soon as possible, so keep follow our blog.

2017 Audi Q2 Release Date

Rumors about Audi planning to build a crossover smaller than the Q3 have been flying around for a couple of years now. But even though Audi’s intentions to further expand the Q lineup were no secret, we have yet to see a fourth member to join the 2015 Audi Q3 , 2013 Audi Q5 , and 2016 Audi Q7 until 2015. That’s about to change next year, when the smallest Audi-badged crossover will be launched at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

2017 Audi Q2 Specs

Judging by the camouflaged prototype, it’s safe to assume the Q2 will be a shrunken Q3. However, there are a few features that set it apart from its bigger sibling, apart from the size and overall shape. The roofline sits lower toward the back, giving the crossover a coupe -like appearance. The waistline also appears to sit lower than on the Q3, but the latter might also get this feature when the redesigned model comes out.

With recently redesigned Audis having received new interiors built around a clean dashboard highlighted by a continuous air-vent strip, I’m tempted to say the Q2 will too benefit from the new styling. However, it’s not yet clear whether the smaller vehicles will borrow the same features seen in the Q7 and A4. The crossover could very well receive an interior similar to the 2015 Audi A1 , a car that’s only slightly smaller. The good news here is that the Q2’s wheelbase is longer than the A1’s, which should make it pretty comfortable for four people.

The general body design of the Q2 model is much smaller compared to the A3 models. The luggage volume is approximately 350 liters. Trunk measurements are 4200 mm in length, 1750 mm wide and 1570 mm in height. The general design for the Audi Q2 has been wholly inspired by the Audi Q5 SUV design. Its stylish as well as aggressive design renders this SUV generationally fit as compared to the other large models in the Audi Q line. The wheelbase, however, is not as small as that of the A1 and will be appropriate for those looking for a four-seat SUV.

2017 Audi Q2 Engine

The 2017 Audi Q2 SUV is going to be powered by a 1.4 liter, 3 and 4-cylinder gasoline and diesel engine options respectively. For the lower trim models, there will be a 3-cylinder petrol engine capable of providing up to 100 hp. This engine option moreover, shall come with a Forward Wheel Drive system. All-Wheel-Drive option will be available for choice by buyers. Additionally, both automatic and manual transmission systems will also be an added opportunity for choice. Furthermore, sporty versions will also be an added advantage for the standard versions of this Audi version. The Audi SQ2 version will be equipped with a twin turbocharged GTI engine providing up to 230 horsepower. The RS Q2 will have the S3 engine and is expected to provide up to 300 hp. A majority of the buyers shall jubilate around with the 150 and 190 hp 2-liter option for the diesel engine varieties.

The crossover will arrive with variety of four-cylinder engines. The gasoline lineup should include the 1.4-liter TFSI with outputs between 120 and 182 horsepower. On the diesel front, it should get both the 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter TDIs, with the most powerful version generating about 190 horses. Audi is also planning a performance-oriented SQ2 version, which is likely to borrow its engine from the 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI (the two will also share VW’s MQB platform. Expect the SQ2 to churn out around 230 horsepower. An RS Q2 model is also possible, but it’s probably at least a couple of years away.
