2017 Bentley Mulsanne Changes

The Bentley Mulsanne was first introduced to the market by the renowned British auto manufacturer, Bentley in 2010. The model was released as a substitute to the Bentley Arnage, and at present, the model has received its mid-cycle revision for the model year 2017. Following months of gossip and camouflaged models spotted in October 2015. It is now confirmed by the automaker that the 2017 Bentley Mulsanne will be available for sale as a 2017-model year vehicle shortly.

The British brand is known for keeping a product around for more than a decade and throw in a few updates from time to time. This is exactly what happened with the Mulsanne, but to Bentley’s credit, the facelift brings more modifications to the exterior than expected. Maybe it’s all because Bentley has a new SUV in dealerships, which will most likely bite into Mulsanne and Flying Spur sales. With the Bentayga around to offer the same levels of luxury and a roomy interior, the Mulsanne needed a more comprehensive makeover in order to remain attractive.

Naturally, the British automaker did not interfere much with the design of the Mulsanne. The British company is recognized for maintaining a product around for over a decade and including some updates periodically. This is precisely what happened with the current Bentley Mulsanne, but to the credit of Bentley, the facelift delivers more changes to the exterior of the 2017 Bentley sedan than expected.

2017 Bentley Mulsanne Specs

Although newMulsanne gets an update after five years, it comes with the same daring front fascia. However, according to the company policy, there may be some minor tweaks in the external elements. Accordingly, the new Mulsanne comes equipped with a new front bumper and grille. The major change in the front part is that the grille assumes the width of 3.1 inches and it is designed with stainless steel perpendicular slats above the matrix mesh, seen on the earlier Mulsanne. This innovative grille pays respect to the earlier Bentley models, including the R-Type Continental and the Embiricos.

Where the styling of the outgoing Mulsanne is smooth and stately, the new one is more angular and modern. At the front, the traditional upright grille remains, but it’s over three inches wider than before, and is slatted with vertical vanes in polished stainless steel that are meant to recall Bentley classics from the 1930s. On either side of the imposing grille are two round headlights, which are placed on the same horizontal axis in an effort to eliminate the droopiness seen in the current Mulsanne. All four headlights are full LED units, with adaptive beams and independent washers. Lower grilles are outlined in chrome, and these join B-shaped vents embedded in either fender. The rear taillights are nicely detailed with light bars in a sort of open-B shape.

As the interior design remains unchanged, it looks identical to that of its predecessor. Buyers will get the similar dashboard, enclosed in acres of leather and wood. It also comes equipped with the same four-spoke steering wheel with incorporated controls, the broad center stack, and the dual-tone door boards with upper wood sections. New interior features comprise a maximum of 13 hand-chosen wood veneers, vivid-polished stainless steel, and distinctive glass switchgear.

At first glance, the interior of the new Mulsanne is identical to the previous model. That’s because the design remained unchanged. Customers will get the same dashboard covered in acres of wood and leather, the four-spoke steering wheel with integrated controls, the wide center stack, and the two-tone door panels with upper wood sections. But, while Bentley didn’t meddle with the styling, it did create new appointments for the luxurious interior. New features include up to 13 hand-selected wood veneers, bright-polished stainless steel, and a unique glass switchgear.

Positioned on both sides of the grille are a couple of innovative all-LED headlights that have sophisticated adaptive technology with ray patterns that adjust to driving conditions automatically. The external lamps have also been modernized and lifted in the fender so that their bases are in order with the main headlights. The single-piece front bumper features a revamped grille part with B-shaped components on the sides and a middle unit that imitates the major grille. While the side openings have matrix grille outlines, the one in the center features the perpendicular slats of the upper grille, as well.

Positioned to either side of the grille are a pair of new all-LED headlamps that feature advanced adaptive technology with beam patterns that automatically adjust to driving conditions. The outer lamps have also been updated and raised in the fender so that their bases are in line with the main headlamps. The bumper is now a one-piece unit and features a redesigned grille section with B-shaped elements on the sides and a center unit that mimics the main grille. While the side vents have matrix grille layouts, the one in the middle also features the vertical slats of the upper grille.

The notable change in the sides of the new vehicle is the fresh B-shaped wing aperture integrated into the lower part of the fender. The window border seems to be completed in the brighter chrome, similar to that on the front grille.

2017 Bentley Mulsanne Engine

The 2017 Mulsanne would get its essential power and torque from a V8 engine with the displacement of 6.75 liters, which was used by the earlier model. As a result, the engine offers the same power of 505 ponies and same torque of 752 pounds per foot. The engine will be combined with the same eight-velocity ZF mechanical transmission to send the power to the wheels. There is no change in the acceleration figures either, it makes the new vehicle attain the 60 mph speed from the start in 5.1 seconds, and offer the same maximum velocity of 184 mph/296 km/h. The 2017 Bentley Mulsanne engine releases only 342 g/km of CO2 emissions and offers the combined mileage of 19.3 mpg.

Motivation comes from the same 6.75-liter V-8, but if you were looking for more power and torque, you’ll be disappointed. Specs remained unchanged from the previous model, meaning that the facelifted Mulsanne comes with the same 505 horsepower and 752 pound-feet of torque. There’s no need to be upset though. The oomph is enough to push the massive Mulsanne from 0 to 60 mph in only 5.1 seconds, a sprint you don’t get with most luxury rigs. Top speed remains locked at 184 mph, but that’s nothing to sneeze at given the size of this sedan.

Although Bentley officials take pride in the fact they are the largest producer of 12-cylinder engines in the world, the Mulsanne continues to soldier forth with the long-serving 6.75-liter V8. While this L-Series engine traces its roots all the way back to 1959, as evidenced by its cam-in-block overhead-valve design, it’s been fully modernized with electronic controls and twin turbochargers. The result is 505 horsepower and 752 pound-feet of torque (or 530 hp and 811 lb-ft in the Speed), routed through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels.
