2016 BMW M2 redesign

The new BMW 2-Series is one of the many culprits of the brand’s confusingly revamped naming system, but that doesn’t stop it from being a very fun little luxury sports coupe particularly in M235i form. By the end of 2015, however, the most potent version of the 2-Series should be on the road: the M2.

It’s been known since mid-2013 that an M2 was a solid bet for production, and recently we learned that that production will be starting by the fall of 2015. That means may see the cars in showrooms by the end of the year and probably no later than the spring of 2016.

Here are some great news for all BMW fans and everyone else who like fast driving. The test mule of new coupe has been spotted thanks to enthusiastic photographers. According to some reliable insiders, it is a new entry-level sport coupe which will come as 2016 BMW M2 next year. Although it will be bigger and slightly different looking, it is pretty much legal to call it the successor of limited 1M model. This model will be characterized by great design, excellent performances, latest hi-tech features and, what is very important nowadays, it will be very economical in matters of fuel consumption, according to company spokesman.

2016 BMW M2 Price

2016 BMW M2 Redesign

Although 2016 BMW M2 may look just like other Bavarian models, it will be special in many aspects. It will use F21 platform, which will later be used for the next 2-Series models. Probably the most innovative thing about new model will be the materials which will be used in 2016 M2 construction. Thanks to carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics, which is reserved for only few models like M3 CRT or i8, this car will be extra light, which guaranties not only excellent handling, but also great fuel economy. It is easy to conclude that this is company’s attempt to create the car which will have all of the characteristics that modern sporty car needs aggressive look, great performances, extremely fun for drive and, at the end, great fuel economy.

2016 BMW M2 Specs

Other upgrades will include wider wheels and tires, factors hinted at by the camouflage over the fender flares on the car seen in the spy photographs. The latest shots also reveal the new bumper designs for the car, with the front featuring the complex aero elements typical of the latest M cars.

Upgraded suspension, M Division traction and stability control calibration, and, likely, a mechanical limited-slip rear differential could all further enhance the M2’s performance over the capable but still restrained M235i.

BMW’s test team is hard at work this winter as yesterday our spies spotted the new 7-Series and now we have images with the M2 undergoing some cold weather testing and hiding an obviously wider body with ventilated front fender and beefier brakes. BMW M chief Frank van Meel recently hinted at a 1-Series M Coupe successor and the car he was talking about can be seen in these spy images, the M2 Coupe which will be positioned above the M235i.

2016 BMW M2 Engine

We’re fairly certain that the M2 will be powered by BMW’s prolific twin-turbo S55 3.0-liter inline-six. Output ratings will likely approach or surpass 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. As such, the M2’s power-to-weight ratio should beat both the beloved V-8–powered previous-gen M3’s as well as the new M4 coupe’s. Transmission choices will in all likelihood be shared with the M3/M4, which offer a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

When you see what will be under the hood of 2016 BMW M2, you won’t have any doubt that the fun is guaranteed. This car will be powered with twin-turbo 3.0 straight six engine, which can also be found in 235i model. However, it will be tuned up to 380-400 horsepower for this occasion. When you add to this all-new DCT semi-automatic transmission, it is clear that performances will be on the highest level. The 2016  M2 will be able to make 0 to 60 mph in only 4.2 seconds, while top speed will be over 150 mph.
