2017 Buick Encore Engine

2017 Encore comes equipped with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine with the displacements of 1.4 liters. This Inline engine has been tuned to two different levels to offer different powertrain figures. All models, except the Sport Touring model, would get the utmost power of 138 ponies and the utmost torque of 148 pounds per foot whereas the Sport Touring model would get the utmost power of 153 ponies and the utmost torque of 177 pounds per foot.

The sole powertrain remains a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder, and it once again comes in two forms: one with direction injection and a slightly less powerful one without direct injection. No numbers for the 2017 model were released but as a reference the current Encore offers 148 horsepower as standard or 153 hp with Sport Touring trim. We can confirm that the sole transmission remains a 6-speed automatic, and buyers will once again have the choice between front- and all-wheel drive.

Powerwise, the 138-hp, 148-lb-ft 1.4-liter turbo I-4 soldiers on as the base engine, and a fancier direct-injected 1.4-liter turbo with auto start/stop based on the Volt engine’s architecture that makes 153 hp and 177 lb-ft. That one appeared in the top variant of the 2016 Encore, but for 2017 it becomes standard in the Sport Touring and optional on all higher trim levels. Both engines are bolted to a six-speed automatic with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Final EPA figures are still to be determined and may differ a bit from what should be mechanically identical fitments in the 2016 model, due to changes in the testing and correction protocols at the EPA.

The 2017 Buick Encore engine accelerates the new Encore to attain the velocity of 60 mph from the start in 9.8 seconds. The engine will be paired with a six-velocity mechanical transmission to transmit power to all the wheels. 2017 Encore will be offered with the four-wheel drive system.
