In general, its interior offers plenty of stretch-out space, but some of the bits and pieces show subpar quality, while the exterior writes the checks that it’s interior to pleas with its dynamic and modern hues. The graceful dual-cowl dashboard creates a wraparound effect and flows organically into the door panels, creating an effect that has become General Motors trademark.

The 2017 Chevrolet Impala looks bold and stylish. Its halogen headlights particulary make it attractive at night. The base model rides on 18-inch wheels although buyers can upgrade to 20-inch wheels at an extra cost.

2017 Chevrolet Impala Engine

The 2017 Impala’s portfolio starts with its roomy interior. This is one of the main reasons to consider this class of car, and compared to a typical midsize sedan, the Impala gives rear passengers plenty of space to stretch out. There’s also a big trunk that can hold up to 18.8 cubic feet of stuff. Should you load up both the rear seat and trunk for a road trip, the Impala will keep your crew comfortable with its impressively smooth ride over bumps and low levels of wind and road noise on the highway. This is a restful, serene road tripper on long hauls.

It’s fair to say that these qualities are big-car basics, but we’re also fond of the Impala’s technology. Standard on all but the base LS trim is the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system, which has crisp graphics and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. There’s also an appealing collection of safety features available, including lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. These nicely complement the Impala’s crashworthiness, which scored high marks in government testing.

The base LS trim features as standard power adjustable side mirrors,  body-colored door handles , DRLs which are integrated into the headlight housings and 18-inch steel wheels which are wrapped in all-season blackwall tires. Moving over to the LT trim, you get 18-inch painted alloy wheels, heated and power adjustable side mirrors and an optional sunroof.

The top-of-the-range Premier trim features  19-inch machined face-aluminum rollers which are also wrapped in blackwall tires. It also features  chrome door handles featuring body-color strips, HID headlights and  LED DRLs.

2017 Chevrolet Impala Engine

The 2017 Chevrolet Impala is offered in a number of drive-trains. The base engine is a 2.5 L, 4-cylinder power plant which is capable of producing 196 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque.  This engine is EPA rated at 22 mpg city, 31 mpg on highway and 25 mpg on combined drives. The engine which will be offered on the LS and LT will is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system that channels power to the front wheels. The engine also features a stop-start system which helps save fuel by shutting off the engine whenever the vehicle comes to a halt.

The LS and LT trims have an option for a 3.6 L, V-6 which produces 305 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. This engine is however offered as standard on the Premier trim. The engine is EPA rated at 18 mpg city, 28 mpg on highway and 22 mpg on combined drives. This engine powers the model to accelerate to 60 mph from standstill in 6.4 seconds.

Chevrolet is trying to increase the market share for the Impala, it plans to do this by offering a wider variety of engines; two 4-cylinder engines and the flagship (& exclusive) 3.6 liter V6. The ecotec 2.4 liter 4-cylinder comes with eAssist and Chevrolet say that gas consumption should be around the 35 MPG mark when driving on the highway.

There is another engine on offer. The engine is a dual-fuel V-6 which runs on either gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG). The CNG tank is mounted in the trunk and it holds 7.7 GGE (gasoline gallon equivalent) which can power the Impala over 150 miles. This engine runs on CNG by default and switches to petrol once the CNG is depleted.

However, a driver can switch between the fuel sources via a switch which is mounted on the dash. When running on gasoline, the engine produces 260 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque which drops to 230 horses and 218 lb-ft of torque when using CNG. On petrol, the engine is EPA rated at 17 mpg city, 25 mpg on highway and 20 mpg on combined drives while on CNG it is EPA rated at 17 mpg, 25 mpg and 19 mpg on city, highway and combined drives respectively.
