2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider changes

When it made its maiden debut at the 2013 at the Geneva Auto show, the LaFerrari Coupe was the first Ferrari to use a hybrid drive-train. Despite the model costing almost $2 million, all 499 units sold out in a matter of months. The automaker now is set to follow up the Coupe with a Convertible version dubbed the 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider Aperta. Although Ferrari has not said how many models will be built, the automaker revealed that all models have already sold out. The Spider was offered to a select few individuals.

The Ferrari LaFerrari made its first public appearance at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, taking center stage in spite of massive competition from the McLaren P1 and the Lamborghini Veneno. Not only the fastest road-legal supercar to come out of Maranello, the LaFerrari is also the first Ferrari to carry a hybrid powertrain. Developed as a successor to the almighty Enzo and the F50, the LaFerrari is the first Ferrari not to be designed by Pininfarina since 1973.

Built in just 499 units and priced from $1.7 million, the LaFerrari became an instant hit with deep-pocketed enthusiasts, who rushed to pay the hefty sticker and help Ferrari close order books in a matter of months. Although both the standard supercar and the highly exclusive, track-only FXX K are already sold out, the LeFerrari saga is set to continue with a convertible version.

Ferrari has already released photos of the model and as you would expect, it looks sharp and elegant just like the coup. I think the Spider is way more stylish than the Coupe. The Spider will be showcased at the Paris Auto show in October before deliveries to customers commence in 2017.

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider Price

Pricing for the new 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider has been set at $3.4 million – $3.5 million based on current exchange rates. If there are changes on the 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider we will notify you as soon as possible, so keep follow our blog.

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider Redesign

As expected, the Spider is identical to the coupe below the waist and feature the same aggressive lines that make the LaFerrari unique not only among other Ferraris, but modern supercars as well. As seen in our rendering, only a handful of features set the drop-top apart from its coupe sibling. Arguably the most important styling feature is the revised roof, which was redesigned to accommodate a removable panel, likely made from carbon-fiber.

With the panel removed, the LaFerrari gains a different, sleeker appearance, mostly because the slightly bubbled roof that gives the standard LaFerrari its Le Mans prototype-inspired look isn’t there. However, while the C-pillars sit a tad lower behind the seats, the engine hood appears identical to the coupe’s. sporting the save V-shaped glass section.

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider Specs

Below the waistline, the Spider looks identical to the coupe with all the unique lines and curves that made the LaFerrari Coupe a huge hit among supercar enthusiasts. The drop-top roof is actually the only feature that differentiates the Spider from the Coupe. The new roof is a removable panel made from carbon-fiber.

The LaFerrari Spider will be produced in limited units. However, Ferrari has not revealed the exact number of units that will be produced. At first, rumor had it that only 50 units would be produced, recent rumors however suggest 70 units.

Most likely, less than 100 units will be produced.  As such, the model will be much rarer than the coupe.  Ferrari has not revealed the model’s price but the cabriolet will be more expensive than the coupe.

The Spider looks somewhat sleeker with the panel removed. Subtle visual upgrades include revised rear windows and engine hood at the rear. Otherwise, everything else is identical to the LaFerari Coupe.

Inside, the LaFerrari spider is also identical to the Coupe. The cabin combines race-inspired features with unique Ferrari luxury. The steering wheel is a flat top and bottomed unit which slots in front of the model’s 3-piece instrument cluster.

The instrument cluster is customizable to individual driver’s preferences. The center console is identical to that of the Coupe. Interior surfaces are wrapped either with soft Italian leather or with Alcantara. Buyers will love the two-tone finish on the door panels, seats and on the dash.

Surfaces not covered in leather or Alcanatara feature carbon-fiber including on the center console, door panels, and steering wheel and on the floor. The automaker also revealed that carbon fiber is used on the seats as a weight reduction measure.

2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Spider Engine

The system combines a 6.3 L, V-12 which produces 789 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The engine combines with HY-KERN motor which adds 161 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Both combine to produce 950 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

The drop-top will take around 2.7 seconds to reach 60 mph from standstill which is a little slower than the coupe. This is because the cabriolet features altered aerodynamics to accommodate the convertible rooftop. The model will have a top speed of 210 mph just like the coupe. At this speed, the Spider is the fastest street-legal cabriolet in the world.

Inside, the Spider will mirror the coupe as far as design and features go. Like the coupe, the drop-top will have a cabin that blends the already traditional Ferrari luxury with race-inspired elements. The same steering with flat top and bottom will sit in front of the three-piece, customizable instrument cluster, while the center console will have the same clean design. Nearly every surface will be wrapped in either soft Italian leather or Alcantara, with the dashboard, door panels, and seats featuring two-tone finishes in virtually endless combinations.

All these niceties are joined by impressive amounts of carbon-fiber. The lightweight material can be seen on the center console, steering wheel, door panels, and the floor, but Ferrari also used it in the seats in order to save more weight. The missing roof will enable the driver to enjoy unlimited headroom and the enhanced roar of the V-12 powerplant.

In terms of fuel consumption, the cabriolet has the same rating as the coupe. It is EPA rated at 12 mpg in city, 16 mpg on highway and 14 mpg on combined drives. The automaker has not revealed its all-electric driving range.
