2016 Ford Fusion Redesign

Ford Fusion is now in its second generation and mid-size sedan has hardly looked better than it does today. After three consecutive years of blasting top grades in most of car review-related mediums, 2016 Ford Fusion is bound to receive a mild mid-cycle refresh which should keep it competitive.

As one of the most important models for the company, it seem logical that 2016 Ford Fusion will come with several improvements, in order to stay competitive on the market where are plenty of great models such as Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, VW Passat, Mazda 6 etc. Current generation model came in 2011 as 2012 year model it completely followed company’s new design language, which was earlier presented on Focus and Fiesta. However, it seems that after few years this model needs better look, so exterior and interior changes will be main point for this mid-cycle refresh. On the other side, engine lineup is expected to remain unchanged.

2016 Ford Fusion Changes

The 2016 Ford Fusion will come with many changes, when it is about design. Testing model has been spotted and although it is still camouflaged, it is pretty much for sure that most of the changes will be made on at the front. New model will get new front fascia in company’s new styling, while rear end will also undergo some changes in order to follow design of the front. The 2016 Fusion will also come with some changes on the side parts. Expect to see new front-door styling, which will come without small quarter windows. When it is about interior, modifications will be even bigger. It is rumored that new model will come with completely redesigned which will, beside new styling, also feature better-quality materials. Control board will be also redesigned. The 2016 Ford Fusion will come with new Blackberry’s QNX infotainment system instead of current Microsoft SYNC.

2016 Ford Fusion Specs

Ford’s mid-size Fusion sedan, which looks to be getting an involved array of changes for the 2016 model year. The car seen here has its front and rear ends covered in heavy camouflage, but the unchanged middle section is relatively unobscured, and our spy photographers even managed to get a peek at the interior.

The Fusion’s current lineup of naturally aspirated and turbocharged four-cylinder engines and hybrid and plug-in-hybrid powertrains should carry over relatively unchanged to the updated 2016 model. As mentioned, the gas models’ six-speed automatic transmission could gain three gears. These spy photos don’t provide confirmation of that, but Ford and GM have been working on a nine-speed unit for some time. Front-wheel drive will remain standard with all-wheel drive continuing on as an option.

Interior changes are going to be more extensive than exterior ones. Besides getting the new shifter, 2016 Ford Fusion will also get a few more features to its list and a new overall design. Just like before, seat upholstery will be made either from fabric cloth or leather, depending on a trim level. Cabin will receive some new soft-touch surfaces to go with the new flat-top dash, while infotainment system with standard 4.2-inch touch screen display will be carried over.

Exterior changes won’t be extensive at all. In fact, even mild facelift can be more changing than what’s in store for new Fusion. Only notable difference in next-year’s model is the lack of front-quarter window, while tail-light graphics could be changed as well. Otherwise, hexagonal Aston Martin-like grille which dominates front end fascia and gives the character to the car together with striking lines, will keep on unchanged.

As with all things stylish, popularity is fleeting, and the Aston Martin aping Fusion is no different. Although hot when it first hit dealership lots, the Fusion’s sheetmetal now struts in near-ambiguity, with Mazda out-sexing it with the gorgeous 6 sedan last year. Ford will address the Fusion’s look, but it’s difficult to discern from these photos just how the company’s designers sought to freshen the sedan’s cosmetics. Any changes are hidden by the camouflage, but it appears as though the Fusion’s Aston grille design will remain. Interestingly, the Fusion’s front doors lose their small quarter windows, but that’s the most obvious visible change on this prototype.

2016 Ford Fusion Engine

Powertrain options will all be carried over and as hybrid and plug-in versions should keep their Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine, so should conventional models come with the same trio of 4-cylinders. Base engine will again be the naturally aspirated 2.5L 4-cylinder which puts up both 175 hp and lb-ft of torque.

Rest of the lineup will be turbocharged as 2.0L EcoBoost and 1.5L EcoBoost engines deliver 240 and 181 hp, and 270 and 185 lb-ft of torque respectively. Gearbox will be changed, on the other hand, and 2016 Ford Fusion will receive a new 9-speed unit, while drivetrain configuration should remain either front or intelligent all-wheel drive.

It is pretty much for sure that 2016 Ford Fusion will come with the same engines in offer. There will be two Duratec and three EcoBoost petrol engines in offer. When it is about hybrid model, it will feature same configuration that came in 2011, which includes lithium-ion instead of nickel-metal hydride batteries. Transmission also should remain the same. Petrol models are offered with either manual or automatic 6-speed transmission, while hybrid uses Ford’s HF35. However there are rumors that 2016 Fusion could come with new 9-speed automatic transmission, which company develops together with GM.
