2017 Ford Fiesta ST200 Release Date

The 2017 Ford Fiesta ST200 is one of the performance-oriented models in the Fiesta series. The model has been set to unveil in the auto show in Chicago and it generates 10 % extra power and 20 % additional torque when compared to those of the Fiesta ST, which hit the market in 2013. Besides these whopping power and torque outputs, the 2017 ST200 also comes with a lengthy list of exciting features that are not available on other models of Fiesta.

We all have been waiting for a Ford Fiesta with an RS badge only for the automaker to come out saying they won’t be offering the model. In consolation, Ford is releasing a new and more powerful Fiesta which they have dubbed the 2017 Ford Fiesta ST200. This new model was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show. The new model improves power and torque compared to the standard Ford Fiesta.

The model will use the same engine as the standard ST but add an OverBoost feature. This pumps output to 212 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. To the American market, this sounds like a minor upgrade but to the European market it is a huge boost in power. This is because the European Fiesta ST is not as powerful as the model offered in the States. As such, the Fiesta ST200 won’t be setting foot in the United States.

During this week’s Geneva Auto show, Ford stole the limelight and not because of a futuristic looking model or a supercar with a hot-smoking engine, rather by showcasing a stylish hatch which everyone can afford. At one of the Fords display stands stood the 2017 Ford Fiesta ST200. The new model expands the standard ST Fiesta which made its debut in Europe in 2013.

Just last month at the launch of the new Ford Focus RS, CarAdvice reported that Ford Performance’s Chief Engineer, Tyrone Johnson, said that a Ford Fiesta RS was definitely not in any of Ford’ s plans for the future. It was quite a bummer to hear, but that was before we heard about the vehicle you see here – the Ford Fiesta ST200. That’s right, Ford didn’t make an RS variant of the Fiesta, but it did come out with a high-performance model of the little hot hatch.

The Fiesta ST hit the market in 2013 with a power output of 179 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque from its 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder. The ST200 that is set to debut in Geneva is said to produce 10 percent more power and 20 percent more torque than the Fiesta ST. However, that isn’t all that comes with the ST200. It also comes with an exciting list of features not available on other Fiesta models.

2017 Ford Fiesta ST200 Specs

Although there will not be many physical external changes that can be seen in the next generation Ford Fiesta ST200, the automaker offers the vehicle a distinctive Storm Grey finish. The front fascia is adorned with a black color grille, corner vents, air dam louvers, mirror arms to offer it an aggressive look. The external look is further beautified by a set of 17″ alloy wheels. These wheels come together to make a fine visual package. It is praiseworthy that Ford decided a darker color in place of something brighter and more striking. Besides the unique paint, the new Fiesta ST200 also comes equipped with red brake calipers and an ST 200 emblem on the back hatch as a standard external feature.

Regarding 2017 Ford Fiesta ST200 interior modifications, the cabin will be spacious and it comes equipped with Recaro seats that have been borrowed from the Fiesta ST, but this time, these seats are partially covered in Charcoal tinted leather that is held jointly by silver sewing. The seat belts feature silver detailing and lighting have been added to the scuff plates. There are also duos of other changes, such as the door panels on the present Fiesta ST encompass door handle toward its front, with window and mirror, controls a bit beyond the trim.

However, on the new ST200, the door panel has been redesigned, with the drag handle in the center of the armrest, and the mirror and its controls toward the front of the door panel. The storage pouches in the base of the trim appear to be unchanged. It is a much more spotless look, and with no massive pull handle that is toward the front.

As a part of the improvements, the new vehicle also comes with the Ford Performance Package that includes finely tuned suspension dampers and coils, both in the front and at the back. This drops the travel height by 15 mm and as a result, it lowers the center of gravity. The next-gen Fiesta ST200 definitely features a better posture than the Fiesta ST. It is nice to see fewer gaps between the tires and the wheel curves.

There are not much exterior changes compared with the standard Ford Fiesta ST.  The small hatchback looks aggressive from all directions. At the front, it features a large honeycomb grille with a black finish. The headlights flanking it look slimmer.  The front bumper is integrated with air intakes. On the sides, the 2-door hatch comes unchanged compared to the standard version. The vehicle rides on black matte 5-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels which do little to hide its red brake calipers.

2017 Ford Fiesta ST200 Engine

The drivetrain section has been redesigned in a meaningful way. The new vehicle comes equipped with a four-cylinder, Inline-4 gasoline engine with the displacement of 1.6 liters. This will be an EcoBoost engine, which will be capable of generating the maximum power of 197 ponies and a maximum torque of 213 pounds per foot. This is actually 18 ponies of power and 37 pounds per foot of torque in excess of those of the Fiesta ST when it was introduced in 2013.

Ford has also changed up the drive ratio of its 2017 ST200 to 4.08:1 in place of the 3.82:1 drive ratio found in the Fiesta ST. The engine also offers better acceleration to the vehicle that makes it attain the velocity from the start to the 60 mph velocity in 6.6 seconds. The 2017 Ford Fiesta ST200 top speed of the vehicle would be 143 mph.

Under the hood is where Ford achieves the real purpose of the ST200. The hatch still features the same turbocharged 1.6 L, EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine as the base Fiesta ST. However, the engine has been tweaked to produce more power. The new mill comes good with 212 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.

This represents 18 hp and 37 lb-ft of toque more than the base Fiesta ST.  Things get even better with addition of a transient OverBoost feature which allows the engine to pump out an extra 15 horses and 22lb-ft of torque on demand for around 15 seconds.

Furthermore, by fine-tuning the engine would assist it to generate the extra power output and torque output and the new ST200 now features transient over boost. This allows the engine to generate the additional power of 15 ponies of power and 22 pounds per foot of torque for a maximum period of 15 seconds when required.
