2015 Hyundai Elantra Concept

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra ranks 14 out of 40 Affordable Small Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of published reviews and test drives of the Hyundai Elantra, as well as reliability and safety data.

For starters, the 2015 Hyundai Elantra does indeed represent a pretty good value. The large number of standard features Hyundai includes is welcome, and you can even add niceties like Bluetooth and a rearview camera without breaking the bank. The Elantra also comes with a roomy trunk, excellent warranty coverage, and, although it’s always a subjective discussion, sharp styling that gives the Elantra one of the most distinctive looks you’ll find in this class.

Below the surface, however, there are some issues. The Elantra’s stylish, sloping roof line limits headroom up front for taller folks and makes for a difficult entry into the backseat. Also, although the Elantra’s 1.8-liter engine returns pretty good fuel economy (a combined EPA-estimated 31 mpg) its acceleration is lackluster compared to more sprightly rivals like the Mazda 3. The Elantra Sport’s larger engine provides quicker acceleration, but fuel economy drops as a result. An occasionally stiff ride quality is another downside.

2015 Hyundai Elantra was released this summer, and new model year didn’t brought much news, beside few feature additions, as well as some equipment packages shuffle. Elantra already positioned itself on the market, among other sedans as one with great fuel economy at even greater cost.

2015 Hyundai Elantra Specs

Numerous standard features, are divided into three trims levels: SE, Limited and Sport. Beside standards Hyundai offered four optional packages of equipment, including two available for the base trim, and one for the 2015 Hyundai Elantra Limited and Sport.

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra comes in three trims levels: SE, Limited and Sport. Standard SE features include 15-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, full power accessories, air-conditioning, cruise control, a trip computer, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, 60/40-split-folding rear seats and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio and a USB/iPod interface.

There are two options packages available for the SE (only with the automatic transmission): the Popular Equipment package and the Style package. The Popular Equipment package adds 16-inch wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, voice controls, a 4.3-inch touchscreen audio interface and a rearview camera. The Style package adds a sunroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel and LED headlight accents.

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra pulls its exterior design inside, with lots of swooping lines and attractive surfaces to match the generally pleasing aesthetic of the car. The center stack integrates well with the numerous other curves throughout the cabin, while the buttons and knobs are easy to find and feel generally sturdy. While there are some hard plastic elements here and there, they are convincingly grained to look a bit better. The available 7-inch touchscreen and navigation system are easy to use thanks to large virtual buttons and an intuitive menu layout.

Regarding the level of equipment, we can basically exclude Sport trim, due to the fact that its equipment is adapted to its name, and its purpose, which is Sport ride. In that spirit, 2015 Hyundai Elantra Sport comes with a sport-tuned suspension, the moonroof, keyless start and access, 17-inch wheels, fog lights, LED rearlights, leather seats, a 6-way power adjustable driver seat, and the features found in optional packages of the SE trim.

Base 2015 Hyundai Elantra SE offers just enough for an average buyer, even without optional. Its standards include 15-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, full power accessories, climate and cruise control, driver’s computer, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, 60/40-split-folding rear seats and a 6-speaker audio system with a CD player, satellite radio and a USB/iPod interface. However, if this is not enough for you, you can opt for either Popular Equipment package or the Style package.

The Elantra sedan lineup now includes the SE, Limited, and Sport models. All Elantras come with power windows, locks, and mirrors; keyless entry; and (on automatic models) air conditioning; cruise control; Bluetooth with audio streaming; and telescopic steering. All versions can stream audio via the Pandora app and a USB connection. A 4.3-inch touchscreen radio with a rearview camera is now standard on the Sport and Limited sedans, and an option on the SE.

Popular Equipment package adds larger (16-inch) wheels, auto on/off headlights, foglights, Bluetooth connectivity (phone and audio), voice activated controls, a 4.3-inch touchscreen audio interface and backup camera.

2015 Hyundai Elantra Engine

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra comes with a four-cylinder engine that some critics say could use more power, though most agree that the more powerful four-cylinder engine found in Elantra Sport and Elantra GT models provides competitive acceleration. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while an optional six-speed automatic transmission earns praise for its responsive shifts and making good use of the engine’s power. The base Elantra gets up to an EPA-estimated 28/38 mpg city/highway, which is good for the class. Some reviewers write that the 2015 Elantra is surprisingly nimble, while others comment that the Elantra offers controlled handling, but isn’t particularly fun to drive. A few critics report that the Elantra is quiet and comfortable enough for commuting, though many note that the ride becomes harsh and unsettled over road imperfections.

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra SE and Limited models are powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 145 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the SE, while a six-speed automatic is optional. The automatic is the only transmission offered on the Limited.

The Elantra remains lean and efficient, with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine standard in the base SE sedan and the Limited. Rated at 148 horsepower and 131 pound-feet of torque, this powertrain’s fairly smooth and accelerates respectably through a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual. There’s a new 2.0-liter four in the Elantra Sport, with 173 hp.

Both SE and Limited trims come with a 1.8-liter I4 engine that is capable to deliver 145 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. Depending on trim, transmission is either 6-speed manual (SE standard) or 6-speed automatic (optional on Se and only option for Limited). 2015 Hyundai Elantra Sport is packed with a 2.0-liter I4 engine with 173 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices are the same as for Elantra SE model.

Fuel economy for 2015 Hyundai Elantra with a 1.8-liter I4 engine and manual transmission is 27/37/31 mpg city/hwy/combined, which is great, while with automatic it offers one mile more for every parameter.  Sport trim with manual gearbox delivers 24/34/28 mpg, and with automatic 24/35/28 mpg city/hwy/combined.
