2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO Changes

After Nissan dropped the Sentra SE-R in 2012, they left a huge gap which needed filling. When the automaker introduced the Sentra NISMO Concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2013, we all thought a production model would follow shortly after. However, for years, nothing happened and we though…well, another impressive concept which will never see the light of day…until now. Our spy photographers caught up with the 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO testing on the streets of Los Angeles which means Nissan could release the model soon, perhaps even this summer.

To keep up with competition, car manufacturers have to launch many variations of their best selling models. This is very important among fans of modified and performance tuned vehicles. One of these is Nissan Sentra. There are many cars with their upgraded models, with engine that produce more power, aggressive design, and revisited interior for better comfort and impression. Nevertheless, Japanese company won’t be late, since 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo is on the way to make some changes in the class. Predecessor of this vehicle is SE-R model, but it was removed in 2012.

The Sentra has been criticized as bland from some quarters hence needed a bit of spark which the NISMO brings onboard. With a Nismo lineup boasting models like the GT-R, Juke and 370Z, enthusiasts can expect a good dose of excitement in the new Sentra sedan.

2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO Price

Pricing for the new 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO has been set at $25,000 – $40,000 based on current exchange rates. If there are changes on the 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO we will notify you as soon as possible, so keep follow our blog.

2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO Redesign

New 2016 year model of Sentra is redesigned, and it won’t take too long for Nismo model to be presented with further modifications. All fans could be excited with upgrades which are borrowed from some other vehicles from same company. Body language of the 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo is called “Energetic Flow”, and it is highlighted with V-motion grille, headlights and taillights in boomerang shape, shiny metal parts on the body and 17-inch wheels. Nismo model is getting specially designed wheels, and also color schemes and spoiler.

2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO Specs

The Sentra just got a refresh for the 2016 model year, echoing aesthetic updates first seen on the Altima, Maxima, and Murano by way of Nissan’s new “Energetic Flow” design language. The biggest changes are to the front fascia, which gains the characteristic “V-Motion” grille and boomerang-shaped headlights. The boomerang shape was also used for the taillights, which are connected by a strip of chrome fitted to the trunk lid. More chrome is used on the window surrounds, effectively tying together the nose and tail with shiny metal front to back.

The interior is still a mystery as of this writing. Our photographers didn’t get close enough to take shots of the cabin. However, since the model is meant to add a bi of sportiness to the Sentra, expect Recaro sport bucket seats at the front wrapped in leather and Alcantara. I also believe the steering wheel and shifter will be wrapped in leather. The door panels and probably the dash will be wrapped in Alcantara.

I expect a quality infotainment system though not a state-of –the art system considering Nissan has to keep the price from shooting off the roof. Driving aids will also be offered to improve safety standards of the model. I expect a few of them like stability control and traction control to come standard while lane change assist and parking assist among others should be offered as options.

The NISMO is adding excitement to all departments starting with the exterior which looks very aerodynamic than any current Sentra sedan. At the front, the model features a black chrome grille which is flanked by LED headlights. The front bumper is integrated with air intakes at each corner which help channel more cooling air to the front brake calipers.  The bumper is also integrated with LED fog lights just above the air intakes.

Rocker panels and fenders reach closer to the ground which makes the Sentra NISMO look more aggressive.  The front also features a prominent splitter while the rear is characterized by a deck-lid spoiler that extends its trunk. LED taillights add to the sedan’s attractive rear look. There is also a rear diffuser and a chrome-coated dual exhaust tip to complete the rear look.

2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO Engine

Though it has not been confirmed, the Sentra NISMO is likely to be powered by the same engine that powered its Concept. This engine is similar to the one on the Juke but its capacity has been increased to 1.8 L. The turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine will be capable of producing 240 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. Power will be channeled to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission system.

Under the hood of the 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo is a 1.8-literinline four-cylinder unit. This DOHC engine is naturally aspirated and it is ready to deliver 130 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. This output is distributed through CVT transmission to front wheels, which can make new Sentra Nismo sprint to 60 mph in 9 seconds. Manual gearbox is not an option on Nismo vehicles. But, on the other hand, this kind of car can get turbocharger, which can launch specifications into orbit. For example, sprint would be around 6 seconds and output doubled, to 265 horses. These are great numbers for decent fuel economy of around 30 mpg on the highway.

The 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO will be borrowing from the Juke Nismo and NISMO RS models. This is a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, but according to the concept that was introduced a while back, it looks like it might actually gain a couple of liters and be a 1.8L 4-cylinder. Horsepower for the Juke is rated between 188 and 215 which could mean the Sentra NISMO could actually come closer to 240 HP.

An AWD system would be much welcome but it is not likely. With this engine, the Sentra NISMO is expected to run from standstill to 60 mph in under 6 seconds and still post an impressive fuel economy of around 30 mpg on highway drives.
