That’s right, the French and Germans are finally collaborating on a car. But this is all that’s left of an agreement that was supposed to be much larger. Still, we have the first spy photos of the new Meriva’s interior, a car that we expect to come out during this year’s Paris Motor Show.

2017 Opel Meriva Specs

First, it seem as though the 2016 Opel Astra heavily influenced the look and layout. The steering wheel, for example, closely resembles the three-spoke design of the Astra’s wheel, even down to the thumb-operated controls on the sides. Behind the wheel is what appears to be an identical gauge cluster, with a tachometer on the left and a speedometer on the fight. Sitting in the middle is a driver’s information display.

Moving to the center console, we find Astra-esque air vents flanking a large touch screen. It’s expected that IntelliLink will provide the infotainment, which should include optional navigation. Below the screen are three knobs for the HVAC controls, which get chrome surrounds.

Sliding inside, you will meet a restyled cabin that offers more convenience and comfort to passengers. The Meriva will accommodate five passengers comfortably. Seats are upholstered in a quality cloth. Due to the new platform, passengers will have increased head and legroom. The vehicle’s cargo space is also set to expand.

The model will also feature the automaker’s IntelliLink infotainment system similar to the one on Opel Astra and Corsa. This system integrates a 7.0-inch color touch-screen mounted at the center console.  We will inform you of more specs once we get more details.

The new Opel Meriva 2017 will be based on a new platform known as the SCCS platform.  Though there is still scanty information about this vehicle, from the spy shots we have captured of the model under camouflage we can tell the following: To start with, it will have a new grille.

The grille will be flanked by new headlights with LED technology. The front bumper looks modified; the bumper will also be integrated with LED fog lights. On the sides, its back-hinged doors will be certainly replaced by ones that are more conventional.

At the rear, the taillights are also revised and feature LED lighting. Its bumper is also slightly modified. The 5-door MPV will ride on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels.

2017 Opel Meriva Engine

The 2017 Opel Meriva will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. Though exact information is not out, we understand that the following drive-trains are likely. The first engine will be a 1.4 L, 4-cylinder petrol engine which is capable of producing 99 hp and 96 lb-ft of torque. This engine will be tuned differently to offer more power. The tweaked version will deliver 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque.

Powering the tiny 2017 Opel Meriva will be a base 1.0-liter inline three turbocharged petrol engine offering 90 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. Larger naturally aspirated engines will be available in certain markets while the top of the range model will get a 1.4-liter turbocharged mill with 100 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. A 1.3-liter diesel with 75 horsepower is also going to be an option for those looking for better fuel efficiency.

The current Meriva offers a wide selection of engine options, including a 1.6-liter diesel and a 1.4-liter gasoline burner, both coming in various states of tune. Transmission options include a five-speed manual, six-speed manual, and a six-speed automatic.

This latest generation is expected to come with the choice of either a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine, or a 1.6-liter four-cylinder oil burner. Both should be offered in a few different states of tune, plus come start-stop functionality for extra efficiency.

The 2017 Meriva should be powered by smaller engines. Entry-level models will tug at the front wheels using 1-liter turbocharged units, but most Europeans will go for one of several 1.6-liter diesels. These will range in output from around 90 to 160 horsepower, being available with AWD (hopefully) and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Moving over to diesel engines, the first mill will be a 1.3 L, 4-cylinder engine capable of 94 hp and 133 lb-ft of torque. The second diesel mill is a 1.7 L CDTI engine good for 128 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque.  The most potent engine will be a 1.6 L diesel engine with 134 hp and a whopping 320 lb-ft of torque.
