2017 Porsche 718 Changes

The Porsche Cayman, which is a coupe version of the Porsche Boxster, is a mid-engine model introduced in 2005. The model has become progressively more popular with consumers as a more affordable and fair proposition when compared to the range-leading Porsche 911. The first era coupe was launched with three dissimilar flat-six powertrains and later, a facelifted Cayman was launched during early 2009, whereas the redesigned version arrived in dealerships in 2013.

The Porsche Boxster and Cayman receive a mid-cycle update for 2017 and both take on the name 718 in reference to the open-cockpit, mid-engine 718 of 1957 to 1962. Both also swap their naturally aspirated flat-6 engines for turbocharged 4-cylinders.

Porsche has released details of the engines in the 2017 718 Boxster, and we assume the same engines will be used in the 718 Cayman. To date, we know that the 718 Boxster will come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four that will make 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

Now, the German automaker is offering model a mid-cycle refresh for the model year 2017 for the still-fresh Cayman, with the name, 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman. Like with nearly all Porsche facelifts, the 2017 model 718 Cayman was first expected to get minor interior and exterior changes, in addition to a meek output boost. However, the unveiling of the modified Boxster made it apparent that the Cayman was in for a complete update.
